As minimal and neutral decor continues to go on the rise, a new home trend has surfaced helping to bring a twist into the mix — irregularly shaped and pond style furniture and decor. A decor trend that’s more typical to the Scandinavian living room made its way into our own living rooms which provides a refreshing statement to any space with a neutral aesthetic.
To help you try it at home, rounded up some of my favorite choices like curved sofas, pond mirrors, and other irregularly shaped decor to help you experiment with shapes to freshen up your home in a trendy yet refined way.
To start, pond mirrors are my favorite design decor from the trend to start incorporating into my own home space. There’s something that I love about how the eye naturally moves about the frame — easy, curious, and inspired. You can either hang it up on a wall or prop it up on a table to integrate it into your setup. It’s easy and a very common method of including these pond mirrors into a home.
It also invites the viewer’s eye to wander and move about the space around the mirror. Its presence is soft and a refreshing departure from the traditional angular mirror. They’re also a more affordable option than say a puddle coffee table or curved sofa that’s a little out of my price range right now.
And then once you’ve made the mirror addition into your home, you’ll find it easier to experiment with more non-traditional pieces seeing this already oddly-shaped mirror in your space.
Another great, small opportunity to include this trend is with a side table. Maybe you don’t have the space for full-on coffee table or you’re not wanting to prioritize getting too experimental but adding on a pond, curved, or bean side table beside your sofa or bed is a great alternative. And if you are interested in incorporating a bigger piece, an irregular and non-traditional coffee table offers a minimal yet refreshingly creative piece to elevate your space.
Another great idea adding a slim, curved console table. If you’re limited in space but still have decor pieces you’d like to display, a minimal and non-traditional table that hugs the wall would be a great addition.
Now if you’re ready to dive into the deep end of curved or irregularly-shaped home additions, a statement chair or sofa will add a refined and soft touch to your space. Typically found in a plush fabrics and in a millennial color palette, these statement pieces will truly transform your space into a truly memorable and iconic scene.
As this trend continues to grow and evolve, I look forward to seeing all the new designs other brands come out with. For someone that truly can’t part with the neutral palette in their own home, this playing with shapes with my decor and furniture allows me to explore new and fun possibilities for my own style to grow with the ever-changing times.
