It’s about that time of the year where we start to feel a chill in the air, spot hints of turning foliage, and are welcomed by the overflowing display of pumpkins at our local grocery stores. Fall has arrived and the time to cozy up in our homes with all the seasonal feels is here. And while I’m all for the lively color palette ranging from orange rusts, crimson, and deep plums, I still plan on keeping the neutral theme alive and well to stay true to my own home’s aesthetic.
For some inspiration on how to liven up your own home for the fall while still maintaining a refined ambiance, I’ve rounded up my favorite decor ideas for the season.
Stone Centerpiece Bowl
As a subtle statement piece, this Terracotta Stone Bowl serves as a beautiful opportunity to display any seasonal fruit and veggies. Its heavier stone material and off-white hue gives off an earthy and natural look that marries well with any fall produce. You can place it on top of some neutral coffee table books or wherever else it looks best in your space.
Exposed Candles
For a subtle pop of orange, these Honey-Colored Cylindrical Candles offer just enough color without over-powering your neutral color palette. And for an added rustic touch, you can tuck a few dried, brown pine cones in between each candle for some contrast.
Pressed & Framed Foliage
Touches of gold here and there mimic the golden light reflecting off the turning foliage. Better yet, you can take a Clear and Gold Frame and insert one or two fall-colored leaves to put on display.
Rustic Black Vessel
Adding a Black Vessel with an aged finish and pairing it with some subtle orange flowers or leaved branches will work great if you’d like to channel some Halloween energy as well. The contrast with your surrounding neutral space will help to really bring out the vibrant fall colors without being too overwhelming.
Cozy Throw Blanket
If you haven’t already, draping a blanket over a living room sofa or lounge chair will instantly add a cozy, fall-friendly feel to your space. Something preferably that looks a little more lived-in can offer a more rustic look that coincides with the season a little more, like this Fringed Linen Blanket. Or if you’re looking for a little more color, this Crinkled Cotton Throw in a rusted shade will brighten up any room nicely.
Foraging for Decorative Branches
Lastly, one of my favorite and most affordable ways to elevate a space for the season is going outside in the crisp fall air and foraging for fallen branches. You can use them as centerpieces for your dining table, prop up against a wall, or arrange them within a rustic vase. One of my favorite creative experts, Athena Calderone, has mastered the art of foraging to compliment her ethereal space. In this particular, dry season, selecting a dark, naked branch will suit a space best to mirror the transitioning gloomy, earthy, and brisk weather outside.
You can discover just how she does it in her Foraging in Nature: How to Style Decorative Branches blog post. And if you’re looking for more home inspiration, she has plenty of it on her Instagram page.
And what’s the best thing about incorporating more subtle and neutral pieces into your seasonal space? You’re welcome to reuse each piece of decor throughout the year while adjusting to the festivities. This way, you can invest in the pieces you truly adore instead of spending your money on more disposable, trending accents that come and go. And once you’ve gotten more familiar with your timeless pieces, you’ll get a better understanding of which will work for each season so you can become your own expert in designing your dream home space.
